Redlined Hit 10K: The Giveaway, How the Winner Was Picked, and Who Won

Redlined just crossed 10,000 followers, so we gave back. Three prizes, one winner, and the winner is in.

The three prizes

One winner got all three:

  1. Any Redlined tee you want. Pick a design from the shop.
  2. $100 off powder coating from @fapowdercoating, done at FapAuto. If you want to know what that work looks like, start with powder-coated wheels and why the club swears by them.
  3. A ticket to Fall Fest New Jersey, billed as Jersey's largest car show, on Saturday, October 31. The ticket came from our partners at @scripted.club.

How to enter

The rules were simple:

  1. Follow all four accounts: @redlined.cc, @fapauto, @fapowdercoating and @scripted.club.
  2. Like the post.
  3. Comment tagging two different friends. Every such comment counted as one entry, with no limit.
  4. Bonus: sharing the giveaway to your story and tagging @redlined.cc counted as one extra entry.

Entries closed Wednesday, October 28 at 11:59 PM ET. It was open to US residents 18 and older, no purchase necessary, and not sponsored by or associated with Instagram. And as the post said, we'd never DM you asking for payment.

How the winner was picked

We wanted it to be fair and checkable, so there was no picking by hand:

  • We collected every eligible comment we could see: 26 entries from 13 people. A comment only counted if it tagged two different friends.
  • We ran a cryptographically secure random shuffle over all 26 entries (Python's secrets.SystemRandom), on the night entries closed.
  • Then we checked the first name on the shuffled list against the rules: did they like the post, and do they follow all four accounts? The winner did all of it.
  • The rest of the shuffled list is the backup order, in case a winner doesn't respond or turns out to be ineligible. Alternates would be checked against the same rules before we used them.

More entries meant better odds: every extra tagged comment was another slot in the shuffle.
